I used to get hit every pull on purpose, because it would allow exact placement of the mob before sending in pet. And, lets face it, we CAN take hit or 2 from most group mobs without worrying about it.

I'm retired now but my vote is HP. With group gear you can withstand a few hits from even T4 group named. Use a shield and max out shield block- like the warriors do. Having also played a fully T4 geared warrior, a mage is not going to get enough AC to really make a difference except on a shield.

I use the Hps myself. The most dmg I take when fighting is from my mod rod.

I am an AC whore. That said I only focus on AC when I tank or pull. In raids its all about the HP. You should realy be using both types of clickies based on what you are doing. When I farm or beam kite, pack on the AC, you are gonna take a beating, and with some creative stacking you can pack on a ton of AC. The other day on raid I had 7780 AC, I was tanking and there was a major difference after a death and was down to 5800. Though on normal events I use the HP buffs.

What is the soft cap for us mages? I think the return over soft cap was parsed out at like .02% right? anyone have these numbers i'm trying to recall info from years ago and fail at doing it successfully a lot.

Last I knew the soft cap for mages (all casters) was like 900.

Get the highest AC shield you can and put the highest AC aug in it. After that, HP all the way.

I never bother to click any of my HP or AC clickies. I don't even have them on my hotkey bars.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading that returns on AC was increased for most classes, and silks got the largest increase of all. Sometime around SOF I think
