Do the pet foci work on non-MAG/BST/NEC classes?

Anything relating to the magical arts (pets, spells, AAs).

Do the pet foci work on non-MAG/BST/NEC classes?

Post by Vincentt »

Using a Skull of Spire Servant -(Enchanced Minon 1 foci) - buff on my 75 shaman, the wolf pets he summoned are still light blue. I expected them to be bumped up by 2 levels: normally they are level 68 with ~4500hp, I thought if the foci worked the pet would be level 70 and be dark blue to a 75.

Do the pet foci work on non-MAG/BST/NEC classes? Ie. SKs, SHMs, maybe even DRUs?

Could classes with swarm pet weapons (ex: Timespinner for ranger) use the Skull of Spire Servant or Shard of First Minion (Spire Servant foci) on their pets that come through weapon procs and get more powerful swarm pets?

Does pet foci work on mage swarm pets? RS, host, servant, etc.?

Pet Focus effects only work on those pets for which the devs created a whole new pet template. This is why some lower level Pet Focus items don't focus the pets from the latest expansion and similarly why Pet Focus items from the latest expansion do not focus all the pets from the all prior expansions. When they make a focus for pets, they say "it will effect this level range of pet spells for the pet classes" and then they create a template for each pet spell effected. So for example, if you have the 5 mage pets (earth air water fire RS) and a necro pet and a beast pet effected, they have to make 7 templates. Come a new expansion? Roll out 7 templates for the new pets for the levels, then 7 for each pre-existing focus effect that works on those pets which is usually 3 or 4 at least so make another 21 to 28 templates. Then add in some new focus items for the expansion which is anywhere from 1 to 4 new ones depending, so roll out another 7 to 28 templates. Then find time to try and test all those.

So when a new expansion comes out with level boost and the related stuff, just for the pet classes their system of doing pet focii requires them to 35 to 63 templates without even considering items that might be able to proc a, or do a clickie, pet. To then expand it to all those proc and clickie ones would then be a ton of work. Now if they changed the mechanism by which a pet is focused to not pull out a totally new pet and instead just strengthened/leveled the base pets by some formula, then maybe they could be persuaded to allow them to work on proc'd and clickie pets. Until then? Not likely.

So, Vincentt, the short answer is "no", like Mintalee said.

HOWEVER, as to the second part of your question, do they work on RS pets, the answer is "yes".

Not sure about swarm pets.

But they absolutely only work on Mage Necro & Beastlord pets.

Swarm pets is yes and no. Yes because the RS pets are considered swarm pets. No because the host of the elements and drakes don't seem to be, and I don't ever recall seeing templates for those.
