boxing 2 mages

when using 2 mages, should you use a war merc with one and a cler merc with the other? or 2 cler mercs?
ive heard that pre-50 everyone should get the warrior mercs because they are nearly indestructable?
and should one mage specialize in defensive pet AAs and the other in offensive? or both for offensive? or defensive first so they can last longer?
and should both be using air pets for stuns/mitigation? or maybe one air pet with aggro swords and taunt on, and the other a water pet for BS/dps?
if you have any experience with playing 2 mages, please feel free to pass some wisdom along =)
thanks

ill say pre 50-60 you can use the war mercs but really for sure by 70 use healer mercs. for pets all depends on if you have time of putting one pet behind the mob always if not go 2 air pets. mainly because their good dps plus their stuns will work on most mobs. more stuns equals less hits on your pets. you dont really ever need aggro swords. if you dont have aggro reducing aas or anythings just be smart when nuking. when you got the aas you should never get aggro so i go with the other weapons for pets for extra procs-dmg. For your pet aas should dabble some into defensive first then go offensive and keep them even. thats just some stuff on way id do things.

I'd say two cleric mercs as well. Mercs (or players) healing pets generate no aggro, so if you pull multiple mobs you won't have to worry about the cleric healing the tank and then pulling aggro of the adds. Also you can set one to efficient and one to balanaced or reactive, and then once the more aggressive healer is oom switch the efficient merc to a more aggressively healing stance.

As far as pet selections go, I'd say dual air for the stunning. If with taunt on for the air pet and off for the water pet you can keep aggro on the air pet that might work better, you'd just have to experiment and see. I personally wouldn't throw aggro swords on the air pet, but if it makes the difference between the air keeping aggro over water or not it may be worth it. Again, experiment and see.

If you decide to go with the air water combo, keep in mind when selecting your pet AAs that you probably don't want to go all defensive on the air and all offensive on the water, since that may make water pull aggro off the air pet too much. Just my 2 cp

Yes, go with 2 cleric mercs. 2 mages are more than enough dps to kill anything you need. I'd also go with 2 air pets. In group content, the benefits of using air pets over the small extra dps you'd get from a water pet for the duration of a group mob fight is far greater.

multiple air pets just tear up group mobs.

i think ill try out the air/water combo, and compare it to dual airs.. the reason i mentioned aggro swords was because i was gonna go solid defense for air pet then solid offense for the water pet so with air taunting plus aggro swords it could hold aggro over the water pet. but i dunno ill mess around with it all and probably get both offense and defense for both at first, then specialise the 2 pets later on once they both have a decent ammount of both types.

to me it sounds like 2 air pets will be better because of the stuns mitigation and interruptions etc.. and just give them both dmg proc weapons instead of the aggro swords on one tanking pet.

im really kicking some serious ass with 2 mages.. i wish i had someone else 2boxing 2 more mages, all of us with air pets.. we would really wreak some havok

What? You don't even need to worry about sending in the air pet in a few seconds before the water pet.

The air pet's stun alone will hold agro over the water pet just fine.

Furthermore, 2 cleric mercs at lower levels? Why? A single cleric merc is MORE than capable of keeping a pet alive against anything that will give decent exp. Why use two mercs which will gobble up your exp?

Really though, the best exp for a mage-mage combo is to go against mobs which you need zero healers for. At level 61 with two air pets, you are more than capable of duoing in BOT with no healer. At level 66, you are more than capable of doing a dozen other zones with no healer! At 71, you can duo anything from TBS and earlier with no healers.

It's all about strategy and what you do with your combo.

Oh, and my advice would be to wait till level 71 to get AA's. You really don't need them before that. At level 71, just max out every single AA you can get that is even remotely useful!

2 mages with 2 cleric bots are capable of taking almost every groupable named in the game. So, if you are having trouble getting a group to get your transendant fungus off fungleshock, just find a mage.

I wouldn't worry about using water pet for extra dps when duo.
I would go with 2 clerics and Air/Air or Air/Earth (for root).
