So I am currious as to what we look like post nerf if you will? For the casual player moloing does air or earth tank best? What are other mages using when playing around and not raiding?

Personally I think the class is still doing fairly well post nerf; it certainly could have been much worse. I personally use an earth pet in the group game, which is your best bet outside of stunnable single mobs. I molo quite a bit with this setup in T3 zones, and it works pretty well. Even some of the named are moloable, depending on their abilities.

For me it depends on what I'm doing. When I'm doing older content (currently hunting in Plane of Shadows for an aug) I use my water pet simply because my merc can easily keep it alive when I burn mobs down. While the DPS upgrade isn't huge every bit helps. However when doing more difficult content I'll use my air pet to tank.

Keep in mind I'm only level 102 so using the earth pet would mean going back to a level 99 pet. Since I make my own armor for our pets it's a significant downgrade for me to use and earth pet since it won't equip the stuff I make for it.

Overall though my pet isn't having that difficult of a time holding its own. I'll probably eat my words when I try and take on more difficult content molo but for now fluffy can manage as long as it only tanks singles.

On the other hand our gargoyles are dying a lot faster. Their avoidance is pretty bad and mitigation is horrific. Here's the garg's tanking summary from a few fights last night (again, plane of shadow)

While I got hit for DI20 a lot more than my gargoyle pet my incoming dps and amount I was hit for is whacked. In other words counting on your gargoyle pet to offtank for any length of time will be dicey.

Yeah, I should've preface my post with the qualification that I'm generally fighting in T3 TDS zones, where tankiness is necessary. In all honesty I use the Earth pet pretty much everywhere, but you'd probably get more out of Air (or even water) in older content.
On the other hand our gargoyles are dying a lot faster. Their avoidance is pretty bad and mitigation is horrific. Here's the garg's tanking summary from a few fights last night (again, plane of shadow)
I'm assuming that is the 100 version? I found they die pretty quick in TDS, but the 105 version does fine. Their AC isn't that awful, but compared to our main pets it's pretty bad. They do have a ton of HP though, which helps to offset that. For reference, here's a parse of the 100 pets:

So first, some RS pet parses (EM 20):

I"m level 102 now so yea, no new shiny earth or garg pet yet. Although it really doesn't matter much I'm also sporting an EM16.

Yes you assumed correct that I'm using the level 100 garg pet. My point however was even in Plane of Shadows my gargoyle pet was barely lasting long enough to tank a dark blue con before I could cast another one. If I got a bad lag spike or my gargoyle pet was hit for DI15-20 two times in a row it would die before a second one came out. Gargoyle pets are great dps but their ability to tank even 2 expansions back is iffy.

I tried to handle two air elementals in Tempest Temple by having my air pet tank one and chaining gargs at a second air elemental. The garg died before I could get a second one cast. I'm sure the level 105 garg pet did fine in TDS zones but for those of us that are still plugging away it'll be awhile before we can get the shiny new pets.
